Traffic Amnesty Program Reports
Effective: October 1, 2015 through April 3, 2017
The Traffic Ticket/Infraction Amnesty Program (amnesty program) was designed to provide tens of thousands of people who received qualifying tickets in California with relief from the escalating costs of fines, fees, penalties, and assessments that have come from those tickets (traffic and non-traffic) remaining unpaid. While specifically targeting the payment of delinquent fines associated with infractions, some jurisdictions expanded the program to provide relief from the high costs of delinquent fines from misdemeanor convictions, as well.
Quarterly reports tracked the program with the final report prepared by the Judicial Council and submitted to the legislature. The program:
- was authorized by the 2015 Budget Act;
- resolved 255,306 cases in the 18-month pilot period; and
- courts and counties collected gross revenue exceeding more than $45 million.
